The Society was
founded as a National Organisation in 1981 by the late Mrs Florence Nagle, the
doyenne of our breed, whose long involvement began before the first World War.
Her lifetime concern was the protection and improvement of the breed and her
dedication to those ends remains unsurpassed.
The Society is totally committed to those ends by:
- Promoting the breeding and exhibiting of quality Irish Wolfhounds.
- Giving help and encouragement to new owners of the breed
- Acknowledging and addressing any health problems, particularly of an
hereditary nature.
- Holding Breed and Judging Seminars
The Society holds two shows a year, an Open show in January and a Championship
show in September. Both are held at the Connexion, Coventry, which has proved
to be a popular venue and centrally situated. We also hold rallies each year
with the emphasis on the Irish Wolhound as a family pet. These are great fun
with games, fun matches, speakers and the opportunity to exchange opinions with
owners and their families.
Each year a magazine is produced, distributed to all members, containing varied
articles of interest to all Irish Wolfhound owners.
