Summer Rally, 2010

Was held on Sunday 4th July 2010, at Newfield Green Farm, Marchington Woodlands, Uttoxeter, Staffs ST14 8PB.

'Dog perfect weather' was the order of the day in Marchington Woodlands - white cloud kept the sun at bay and a breeze ensured that the temperature remained comfortable throughout the day's events.

Complimentary teas, coffees & soft drinks were served with a smile by Anita and Nita, whilst guests had a chance to catch up with friends old & new. A number of young puppies were enjoying their first Rally, 14 week old sisters Aidah, Aife & Cuda were keen to meet and greet everyone - along with the happy, outgoing 4 month old Deerhound 'Skerry' who was accompanied by her brother 'Phoenix'.

Around midday folks wandered down to the Lure Coursing field, all were keen to let their dogs have a run, try something new & enjoy all the action. The lure was manned by Emlyn with help from John. They had provided a well designed course, suitable for both newcomers & experienced coursers alike.

Fun and games followed soon after, with the sack race, a very hotly contested egg & spoon race and a three legged race all managed by Cindy and John.

A splendid lunch awaited the hungry revellers - Anita, Kath and Chris worked tirelessly serving up fresh rolls filled with either home cooked, hand carved meats or vegetarian fillings, along with Marie & Jack's amazing Bolton meat pies & fresh salads. Home made cakes & a 'top notch' fruit salad were available for anyone who still had room in their tummies for dessert.

After lunch it was "on with the Wolfhound show"…….judge John Wiggan assisted by Ann and myself found his overall winner from the puppy class in Elaine Catlow's young man 'Conri', handled on the day by Diane Redfern.
Veteran winner was Elizabeth & Anthony's 'Elphin'.

Sue Malpas was our judge for the well supported fun classes, sunglasses should probably have been advised whilst watching the best 6 legs contest! A young man called Joseph, four years old, was so proud of his rosettes that he took them to school the following day to show an admiring audience of teachers and pupils alike.

She actually thought she'd 'gotten away with it'……. but after judging Jill Stayte was called into the ring to be presented with a birthday cake (done just as she likes it - all Marzipan & no icing) to celebrate a very special 'milestone' birthday. (When I discover what her magic secret is, I promise I will share it with you all!)

Our thanks must go to Chris and Les and Diane for organising the summer rally, for all their hard work preparing for the event & for making everyone feel so welcome.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank everyone who attended our rally for making my first 'formal outing' as the Society's new secretary so enjoyable and so much fun too.
