History of the Irish

Rally, June 23rd, 2002The Rally was again held at Grazeley Village Hall, Grazeley, nr. Reading, Berks. The weather was excellent, dry and sunny but not too hot and with a slight breeze. About fifty people (apart from the organisers) came for the day and there were even more dogs, not just wolfhounds but a wide range of breeds and crosses. There was a stall selling breed memorabilia, which did a roaring trade all day, and a Raffle with some excellent prizes. The breed history display was set out all down one side of the hall, while outside there was lots going on.To start the day, there was a "Treasure" Hunt with forty sausages which had been secreted around the grounds as the treasure, each with a red card attached. The person whose dog found the most sausages and who therefore ended up with the most red cards won the Hunt. The dogs all seemed to enjoy the sausages as much as finding them. Then there was a fun Match, in which every dog, including the crossbreeds, could be entered, which took in such classes as "longest tail", "most obedient dog", "most disobedient dog", and so on. Each winner received a prize and a certificate. The judge of this was Chris MacLeod. ![]() The Fun Match was followed by a talk by Miranda Brace on rearing puppies, which was extremely thorough and covered feeding, exercise, training, and general care. ![]() Following this came a demonstration of grooming by Jack Chisnall: ![]() A ploughmans lunch was provided, after which came the Match, which was judged by Caroline Sheppard, seen below judging one of the heats in the puppy Match. ![]() Chris Broughton had a great day, winning Best Puppy with Ceilidh:
and then Best in Match with Finnbharr:
John and Sharon Brewin's Gwen (Panormania Muffin) won Best Veteran once again. Gwen was born on January 6th, 1992, and is amazing!
