Society Rally June 8th, 2008 at Marchington Woodlands, Staffordshire

You always wonder what the weather is going to be like when organising outdoor events but the day couldn't have been better the sun shone all day with a slight breeze in the afternoon, a bit warm for the dogs but the humans seemed to like it. Hose pipe was available for dowsing dogs if necessary and owners if required.

Visitors were greeted with complimentary drinks of tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits.

The day started off with games, egg and spoon race, sack race and three legged race, everyone was very sporting and gave us all a good laugh.

Lure coursing was run for most of the day by Emlyn. Becky, the winner of the 2007/2008 season, attended showing the newcomers how a course should be run; like a flash of lightning she was round the course in seconds eager to kill the plastic bag at the end of the run.

Soon time for lunch, the BBQ was smoking and so was Matt, trying to keep up with the demand for sausages and burgers. There was a plentiful supply of freshly made salads and sandwiches etc.

After lunch it was time for the match, judged by Anthony Murray. The winners were Best in Match Jayne Elliotts Maisie, Best Veteran Jill Statyes Jennie and Best Puppy Lucy Walkers Maja.

The fun classes were judged next by John Sherlock. John had a variety of breeds to judge, large and small. At one point of the judging, best 6 legs John showed the red card to Keith Pursglove and sent him out of the ring, goodness knows what he was up to but there was lots of laughing going on.

Time for afternoon tea with delicious home made chocolate cake, sponge sandwich, jam and cream scones and fruit salad, a nice end to a great day.

Thank you to all the many people Chris and Les had recruited to help make it such an enjoyable day. A very big Thank You to Chris and Les for providing us with the venue and arranging good weather. Hope they will have us back again!!!!
